PALAZZO BISCARI ALLA MARINA

The prospect on via Museo Biscari has no relevance except for the portal, the largest in Catania in size and richness, “trimmed” in the early eighteenth century and bearing the genealogical flagpole of Vincenzo IV ° prince.

The vast courtyard, already full of trees, flower beds, pergolas, unfortunately now bare, ends with an important staircase that ascends to a large room which houses numerous paintings with the Biscari fiefdoms. From there you pass into the Green Room, full of paintings and over-doors, with a beautiful terracotta floor with inlays of white Syracuse stone.

The next red room houses large portraits of the eminent characters of Casa Biscari. The room leads into the large Hall called “dellOrchestra”, a large and beautiful example of Rococo with Neapolitan influences. Large over-doors with views of the capital, Naples, and the surrounding area cover it.

The frescoes on the ceiling celebrate the glory of the Biscari house and, of great and singular importance, the vault of the hall opens to its climax with a large balcony that takes up its oval outline; it is limited by a railing and under the dome that concludes the hall the musicians took their place, barely visible to those under it.

Very interesting is a small suite, the private owners of the owners who welcome a room lined with a rosewood paneling and a “committed” floor (that is, roughly, mosaic), obtained by assembling Roman marble fragments with taste .

TOURS

The visit focuses on the many details just mentioned here and tells the story of the main characters who lived in the Palace.

Those who visit this building should think not only or not so much about the beautiful things that are found there and which make it the most remarkable of Catania, but about the fact that history has passed through these rooms.
If Goethe is perhaps the most famous, already fifty years before him eminent personalities from all over Europe, from Denmark, Russia, Germany, Poland, Spain, France, England …. and of course from all the Italian States Kingdom of Sardinia, Grand Duchy of Tuscany, State of the Church …

All travelers kept a grateful memory of the hosts. The latter, for their part, had the certainty of their rank and were sincerely linked to their city, their fiefdoms and the population (which they helped in times of famine). For all, we think, the European civilization in those years was close and united them, at least for culture, character, common purposes, more than it is today for those who took their place.
